Eljan finishes fifth at the world championships

The U20 World Wrestling Championships in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, are nearing their conclusion.

On the seventh competition day, medalists were determined in the 57kg, 65kg, 79kg and 92kg freestyle wrestling categories.

Bashir Verdiyev (65kg) narrowly defeated Kazakhstan’s Yerali Askerbay 5-4 in his first repechage bout, but was unable to overcome Turkey’s Haji Zadeh in the second repechage bout, losing 12-1.

Eljan Ismayilzade (79kg) defeated Turkey’s Yasin Uzun 8-2 in the repechage. However, he lost 10-4 to the USA’s Ryan Barton in the bronze-medal bout and finished the competition in fifth place.
