Three more medals at the world championships

The U17 World Wrestling Championships continue in Baku.

On the third day of the competition, held at the National Gymnastics Arena, the medalists in the Greco-Roman wrestling events at 45, 51, 60, 71 and 92 kg were determined.

Ali Javadli (45 kg) faced USA’s Raylen Vaks in the final. Although he finished the first period with a 5-0 lead, he was unable to prevent his opponent from scoring a series of points from the par terre position in the second period, eventually losing 5-13. Ali took home the silver medal.

Abdurrahman Huseynli (51 kg) lost 0-9 to Uzbekistan’s World Champion Bunyod Hasanov in the decisive bout, matching his teammate’s result with a silver medal.

Elmir Cherkezov (60 kg) dominated Japan’s Hinata Hanamori 9-0 in the bronze-medal bout.

Zohrab Abbasov (92 kg), meanwhile, lost by a narrow 3-4 margin to Iran’s Amirreza Mehritalarposhty in the repechage bout.

Thus, our national team finished another competition day with two silver and one bronze medal.
