Ziya Babashov: “We showed a match worthy of the final”

Ziya Babashov (63 kg) became champion at the “Muhamet Malo” tournament held in Tirana, the capital of Albania.

The member of the national Greco-Roman wrestling team commented on his performance at the ranking tournament as follows:

“First of all, I greet everyone. I am grateful to all who prayed for me and supported me. The tournament was held at a high level and under strong competition. There were many ambitious opponents. This was one of the most important competitions for me.
I had good matches leading up to the final. In the final, I faced my teammate. Although Sakit Guliyev and I are friends and teammates, on the mat each of us does our best to win. I hope we were able to show a match worthy of the final.
Behind this victory are many people – our coaching staff and team. This success is also the result of their effort. This is my first medal at a ranking tournament, so I am very proud. I believe our achievements will continue.”
