Yusif Dursunov crowned European champion

The U20 European Wrestling Championships, held in Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia, have come to an end.

On the final competition day, the medalists were determined in the 61 kg, 74 kg, 86 kg, 92 kg and 125 kg freestyle categories.

Jamal Abbasov (61 kg) lost to Russia’s Usman Indirbayev 2-13 in the final, while Nurlan Agazade (74 kg) was defeated by Germany’s Manuel Wagen 2-4 in the decisive bout, with both wrestlers claiming silver medals.

Muhammad Abbaszade (86 kg) defeated Israel’s Tomer Drojnyak 7-1 to finish in third place. Huseyn Mammadtaghizade (92 kg) lost to Georgia’s Sandro Kurashvili 1-12 in the bronze medal bout.

In the final bout of the European Championships, Yusif Dursunov (125 kg) faced Russia’s Soslan Gabuev. The final was a closely contested affair. Trailing 0-3, our wrestler showed tremendous determination to mount a comeback. Yusif eventually secured a 4-3 victory to become the U20 European champion.
