Wrestling hall opens in Dash Salahli Village

The Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation (AWF) continues its efforts to develop wrestling in the regions and strengthen sports infrastructure across the country.

As part of these efforts, a freestyle wrestling hall has been opened in Dash Salahli village, Gazakh district. Built with the financial support of the 2006 graduates of Dash Salahli Secondary School No. 1 and equipped by the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation with wrestling mats and other necessary sports equipment, the facility is currently providing nearly 120 young wrestlers with the opportunity to learn and develop their wrestling skills.

The opening ceremony of the wrestling hall was held on July 3. The event was attended by Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov, Head of the Gazakh District Executive Authority Rajab Babashov, Head of the Sports Department of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Elnur Mammadov, AWF Vice Presidents Namig Abdullayev and Farid Mansurov, AWF Secretary General Parvin Piriev, member of the AWF Ethics and Disciplinary Committee Firdovsi Umudov, U17 national team senior coach Haji Aliyev, representatives of the sports community of the western region, coaches, veteran wrestlers and local residents.

The guests toured the facilities at the wrestling hall and met with young wrestlers, sharing their recommendations and advice. It was emphasized that the new sports facility will make an important contribution to the development of wrestling in the region, encouraging children and young people to adopt a healthy lifestyle and helping nurture future champions. The attention and support provided by the state to sports, as well as the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation’s efforts to develop sports infrastructure in the regions, were particularly highlighted.

It was noted that Gazakh being declared Azerbaijan’s Sports Capital for 2026 has given new impetus to the development of sports in the district. The new wrestling hall in Dash Salahli is also one of the important projects implemented as part of this significant year, contributing to the expansion of sports infrastructure, promoting a healthy lifestyle among the younger generation and encouraging their participation in sports.

A demonstration training session was held at the event under the guidance of Asgar Mammadaliyev, a medalist at the Islamic Solidarity Games who works as a coach and instructor at the Dash Salahli wrestling hall. An autograph session was also organized with the participation of Olympic medalist and world and European champion Haji Aliyev.

It should be noted that the opening of this sports facility will create more favorable training conditions for those involved in wrestling in Dash Salahli and surrounding settlements, providing additional impetus to the development of the sport in the region.
