Wrestling Federation provided Astara OIK with inventory

In the past two weeks, representatives of the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation (AWF) have visited various wrestling halls, including in Astara.

The Astara school has a significant place in Azerbaijani freestyle wrestling. This wrestling school has produced notable athletes such as Aslan Agayev, Nadir Hamidov, Jabrail Hasanov, and Sona Ahmedli. Currently, team members Aliabbas Rzazade, Ali Rahimzade, Ramik Heybatov, and Musa Agayev are also graduates of this school.

The AWF has provided necessary equipment to the Astara Olympic Sports Complex. Currently, more than 100 boys and girls are practicing freestyle wrestling under the guidance of four coaches in the complex. It is encouraging to note that interest in women’s wrestling in Astara is increasing day by day. Notably, graduates of this school, Nuray Jafarli and Gulbaci Javadova, reached the finals in the 42 kg category of the U-15 Azerbaijan Championship, which featured women’s wrestling for the first time this year.

Olympic and three-time European champion, AWF Executive Committee member Namiq Abdullayev; Olympic medalist, three-time world champion, and four-time European champion Haji Aliyev; and world third-place winner and U-20 national team coach Ashraf Aliyev met with local coaches and athletes. They discussed the prospects for the development of wrestling in the region with the complex’s director, Aslan Agayev. It was noted that next year, for the first time in Azerbaijani wrestling history, the U-17 Azerbaijan Championship is planned to be held at the Astara Olympic Sports Complex.

The AWF will continue to provide equipment and methodological support to clubs and communities, as well as wrestling centers, in order to accelerate quantitative and qualitative growth and to attract more interest in wrestling.
