The U20 European Championship in Caorle, Italy is nearing its conclusion.

On the sixth day of competition, the first freestyle wrestling medalists were determined.

Vasif Baghirov (57 kg) secured a hard-fought victory over Georgia’s Nika Zangaladze in the final. Trailing 5:6 at the break, the Ganja Wrestling School graduate mounted a strong comeback in the second period to win 9:6. After earning silver at last year’s U20 European Championship, Baghirov went one better this time to claim the gold medal.

Muradkhan Omarov (79 kg) also reached the final, where he faced a Georgian opponent. Unlike his teammate, the debutant representing the Shamakhi Wrestling School was unable to secure victory. Omarov was defeated 0:10 by Davit Chechelashvili and had to settle for the silver medal.

Ravan Musayev (97 kg) defeated Hungary’s Peter Szinovszki 7:0 in the repechage round but lost the bronze medal match 0:6 to Russia’s Magomedgadji Magomedov.
