Ulvi Ghanizade crowned World Champion again, Murad Ahmadliyev wins bronze

The World Wrestling Championships continue in Zagreb, Croatia.

Today, Azerbaijan’s Greco-Roman wrestlers added one gold and one bronze medal to the tally.

Ulvi Ghanizade (72 kg) met France’s Ibrahim Ghanem in the final—a rematch of last year’s title bout. In a tense showdown, Ghanizade earned a 4:2 victory, successfully defending his crown and becoming world champion for the second time.

Murad Ahmadliyev (97 kg) faced Hungary’s Alex Soke in the bronze medal match. A four-point move executed in the first period proved decisive for the Azerbaijani wrestler. The bout ended 5:5, but Ahmadliyev claimed victory on criteria, marking his World Championship debut with a bronze medal.

As a result, Azerbaijan’s Greco-Roman team now has three medals at the championships. It should be recalled that yesterday, Eldaniz Azizli (55 kg) secured a bronze medal.
