U20 World Championships: Team Azerbaijan Announced

The U20 World Wrestling Championships will take place from August 17 to 24 in Samokov, Bulgaria.

The prestigious event, to be held at the “Samokov Arena,” will see Azerbaijan represented by 23 wrestlers.

In the opening days, freestyle wrestlers will step onto the mat under the guidance of head coach Arif Abdullayev and coaches Rovshan Hajiyev, Nazim Alijanov, and Ashraf Aliyev. The lineup includes Vasif Baghirov (57 kg), Farhad Hajiyev (61 kg), Agha Gasimov (65 kg), Nurlan Aghazade (70 kg), Aghanazar Novruzov (74 kg), Muradkhan Omarov (79 kg), Tabriz Bayramov (86 kg), Anar Jafarli (92 kg), Ravan Musayev (97 kg), and Yusif Dursunov (125 kg).

The women’s team will then take the stage, led by acting head coach Toghrul Asgarov and senior coach Rovshan Umudov. Competing for Azerbaijan will be Gunay Gurbanova (59 kg), Ruzanna Mammadova (62 kg), and Zehra Karimzada (72 kg).

The final days of the championships will feature the Greco-Roman squad under the direction of senior coach Nureddin Rajabov and coaches Emin Ahmadov, Turaj Huseynli, and Zohrab Abbasov. The team includes Turan Dashdemirov (55 kg), Ayhan Javadov (60 kg), Tural Ahmadov (63 kg), Ferayim Mustafayev (67 kg), Seymur Gasimov (72 kg), Davud Mammadov (77 kg), Elmin Aliyev (82 kg), Orkhan Hajiyev (87 kg), Ismayil Rzayev (97 kg), and Mezaim Mardanov (130 kg).

Bouts will start daily at 11:00 (Baku time), with medal matches beginning at 19:00.

Azerbaijan will also be represented among the officiating team, as first-class referees Kamran Aliyev and Bashir Isazade will preside over the competition.
