Two of our wrestlers reached the finals of the U23 European Championship
The U23 European Wrestling Championship kicked off today in Tirana, the capital of Albania.
On the first day of competition, the finalists in the 57, 65, 70, 79 and 97 kg freestyle wrestling categories were determined.
Rahman Imanov (57 kg) lost to Russian (U20) European champion and world runner-up Lev Pavlova in the qualifying round with a score of 0:3. Since his opponent advanced to the final, our wrestler will face Stefan Shterzhov of North Macedonia in a consolation match tomorrow.
Murad Hagverdiyev (65 kg) advanced to the quarterfinals by defeating Spanish Felipe Milla with a score of 5:1, but lost to Russian (U17) European champion Amal Jandubayev – 4:8. Since his opponent advanced to the final, Murad will wrestle Ukrainian Mikita Goncharov in a consolation match tomorrow.
Kenan Heybatov (70 kg) made a great start to the continental championship. Our compatriot Narek Pogosyan from Ukraine, Kaloyan Atanasov from Bulgaria and Muhammad Abdurakhmanova from Belgium won early – 10:0 and entered the final. Kenan will compete with Russian Magomed Eltemirov for the gold medal.
Farid Jabbarov (79 kg) also had a successful debut. The national member advanced to the final by defeating Georgian Giorgi Gogritchiani (8:4), Italian Raffaele Matrullo (10:0) and Swiss Umar Mavlayev (3:1). Farid will face Russian Arsen Balayan in the decisive match.
Abduljalil Shabanov (97 kg) lost to Armenian Sergey Sargsyan (3:11) in the qualifying round.
