Two of our wrestlers reached the final of the European Championship.

The European Wrestling Championship continues in Slovakia.

On the second day of the competition, finalists were determined in the freestyle wrestling categories of 61, 74, 86, 92, and 125 kg.

Nureddin Novruzov (61 kg), who joined the competition from the quarterfinals, couldn’t manage to beat the Albanian World Champion and European silver medalist Zalimkhan Abakarov, losing 2-11.

Aghanazar Novruzov (74 kg) made a strong debut by defeating Belarus’ Yagor Akulich by technical superiority – 10-0. In the quarterfinals, he triumphed over Giorgi Elbakidze from Georgia 5-3. Novruzov was narrowly defeated 0-6 by Albanian Olympic medalist Cermen Valiyev, just one step away from the final, and will compete for the bronze medal tomorrow against Bulgaria’s Ramazan Ramazanov.

Arseniy Djioyev (86 kg) lost to Russia’s Olympic and World Medalist, three-time European Champion Artur Nayfonov (UWW) in the round of 16 by a narrow margin – 1-2.

Osman Nurmaqomedov (92 kg) won dominantly against Ukrainian Denis Sahalyuka (11-0) and Belarusian Yaraslav Yadkovski (10-0). In the semifinals, he defeated Georgia’s World silver medalist Miriani Maysuradze 5-2. Osman will face Greece’s Dauren Kuruqliyev in the final.

Giorgi Meshvildishvili (125 kg), who started in the quarterfinals, won 5-0 against Hungary’s three-time European medalist Vladislav Baytsayev. In the semifinals, the Olympic medalist defeated Belarus’ Yanis Kramiankov 8-5. Meshvildishvili will compete for the gold medal against Georgia’s Solomon Manashvili.
