Two of our wrestlers reach the world championship final

The U17 World Wrestling Championships continue in Baku.

On the second day of the competition, held at the National Gymnastics Arena, the finalists in the Greco-Roman wrestling events at 45, 51, 60, 71 and 92 kg were determined.

Ali Javadli (45 kg) defeated Bulgaria’s Ognyan Burgazov and Georgia’s Luka Bolkvadze, both by a score of 9-0. In the semifinals, our wrestler advanced to the final after Iran’s Armin Esmaili failed to appear on the mat. Ali will face USA’s Raylen Vaks in tomorrow’s final.

Abdurrahman Huseynli (51 kg) secured his place in the World Championship final with victories over Kazakhstan’s Kuanyshbek Zhangajol (9-0), Algeria’s Lyès Boumessa (9-0), Armenia’s Gevorg Harutyunyan (6-4) and Georgia’s Saba Abashidze (9-3). Abdurrahman will face Uzbekistan’s Bunyod Hasanov in the final.

Elmir Cherkezov (60 kg) defeated Kazakhstan’s Nurali Askar 2-0 before eliminating Germany’s Cristiano Liebzait on criteria following a 1-1 draw. Cherkezov then defeated Belarus’ Raman Sharkov 3-0. However, he lost 4-5 to Iran’s Amirreza Tahmasbpourmarzuni in the semifinals and will continue his campaign tomorrow in the bronze-medal bout.

Nadir Hasanov (71 kg) eliminated Tajikistan’s Mahdi Azizboyev by technical superiority (10-1) in his opening bout, but lost 0-9 to Ukraine’s Roman Ivanyk in the Round of 16.

Zohrab Safarov (92 kg) lost 4-7 to Ukraine’s Hlib Yevsiiev in his opening bout. As his opponent advanced to the final, Zohrab will face Iran’s Amirreza Mehritalarposhty in the repechage tomorrow.
