Two More Bronze Medal Chances at the World Championships

The U20 World Championships in Samokov, Bulgaria, continue.
On the second day of competition in freestyle wrestling, finalists were determined in the 57, 65, 79, and 92 kg weight categories.
In the 57 kg division, Vasif Baghirov defeated Brazil’s Caio Arona 6-1 to advance to the quarterfinals but was stopped by India’s Sumit Malik with a 2-9 loss. As his opponent reached the final, Baghirov will compete in tomorrow’s repechage round.
In the 65 kg class, Agha Gasimov was eliminated in the qualification round after a 0-10 defeat to Russia’s Amal Zhandubaev.
Competing at 79 kg, Muradkhan Omarov opened with a 9-2 win over Spain’s David Gil and then secured a dominant 10-0 victory against Romania’s David Tartan. However, in the quarterfinals, he fell 0-10 to Russia’s Said Saidulov.
At 92 kg, Anar Jafarli edged past Turkmenistan’s Orazmuhammet Hojaliyev 3-2 in his opening bout. He then delivered back-to-back technical superiority wins (10-0) over Belarus’ Aleksei Kulakov and India’s Sachin Sachin to reach the semifinals. In a hard-fought match, Jafarli lost 6-9 to Kazakhstan’s Kamil Kurugliyev and will wrestle for bronze tomorrow.
