Two Azerbaijani wrestlers reach World championship finals
The U23 World Championships continue in Novi Sad, Serbia.
Today, competition began in the men’s freestyle 57 kg, 70 kg, 79 kg, and 125 kg weight categories.
Muhammadali Alizade (57 kg) was defeated 0–10 by Uzbekistan’s Nodirbek Jumanazarov in his opening bout.
Kenan Heybatov (70 kg) delivered an impressive performance, overpowering Canada’s Cole Coghill (10–0), Belgium’s Muhammad Abdurahmanov (10–0), Armenia’s Davit Margaryan (by fall), and the USA’s Peter Duke (14–4) to advance to the final. Heybatov will face Iran’s Sina Khalili for the gold medal.
Farid Jabbarov (79 kg) opened with a 3–1 win over Switzerland’s Umar Mavlayev but fell 0–5 to Kazakhstan’s Yerkhan Abil in the round of 16.
Khetag Karsanov (125 kg) dominated Belarus’ Pavel Tsyatlava (12–2) and Egypt’s Abdelrahman Sheytan (11–0) before defeating Türkiye’s Hakan Buyukcingil 7–5. In the semifinals, the Azerbaijani wrestler left no chance for the USA’s Daniel Herrera, winning 12–2. Karsanov will meet Iran’s Abolfazl Nejad in the final.
The decisive matches will take place tomorrow.
