Two Azerbaijani wrestlers finish fifth at the World Championships

The U20 World Wrestling Championships in Samokov, Bulgaria, have concluded.

On the final day of competition, two Azerbaijani representatives competed for bronze medals.

Orkhan Hajiyev (87 kg) dominated Japan’s Isshin Onitsuka 12-3 in the repechage match, but was narrowly defeated by Kazakhstan’s Temirlan Turdakov on criteria (4-4) in the bronze medal bout.

Mazaim Mardanov (130 kg) defeated Japan’s Kosei Miyake 9-0 in the first half of the repechage, but lost 0-8 to Ukraine’s Ivan Yankovskiy in the decisive match.

As a result, both Azerbaijani wrestlers finished fifth at the World Championships.
