Two Azerbaijani Wrestlers Advance to European Championship Finals

The U20 European Championship continues in Caorle, Italy.

On the fifth day of competition, freestyle wrestling got underway.

Vasif Baghirov (57 kg) secured early victories over Turkey’s Nurettin Kapala (by fall) and Hungary’s Karoly Barata (10:0), advancing to the semifinals. There, he left no chance for Moldova’s Ion Bulgariu, winning 8:1. Baghirov, who has now reached the European Championship final for the second consecutive year, will face Georgia’s Nika Zangaladze in tomorrow’s gold medal match.

Haji Karimov (65 kg) edged out Italy’s Alessandro Nini 4:3 in his debut but lost by fall in the quarterfinals to Georgia’s Lazare Kujaradze.

Ismayil Rahimli (70 kg) began with a dominant 10:0 win over Hungary’s Jozsef Toth but was defeated 0:4 in the round of 16 by Turkey’s Remzi Temur.

Muradkhan Omarov (79 kg) defeated Turkey’s Huseyin Kabaktas 5:2 and Armenia’s Narek Nikoghosyan 7:3 to reach the semifinals. There, he comfortably beat Austria’s Mukhammad Inshapiyev 11:0. Omarov will take on Georgia’s Davit Chechelashvili in tomorrow’s final.

Ravan Musayev (97 kg) eliminated Turkey’s Ibrahim Benekli with a 6:1 win but fell 4:12 in the quarterfinals to Georgia’s Konstantin Petriashvili. As his opponent advanced to the final, Ravan will compete in the repechage match tomorrow against Hungary’s Peter Szinovszki.
