Three Medals in the Traditional Tournament

The “Dan Kolov – Nikola Petrov” tournament in Varna, Bulgaria, has concluded.

Over the weekend, another Azerbaijani wrestler reached the podium. Murad Haqverdiyev (65 kg) won his first match against Bulgarian Nikola Stefanov with a dominant 10:0 victory. He then secured another confident win over host country representative Erdal Galip with a 5:1 score. In the semifinals, Haqverdiyev defeated Ukrainian Erik Arushanyan 5:3.

In the final, he faced another Bulgarian wrestler, Selim Naim. The match was intense, and with the score tied at 2:2 in the final seconds, Haqverdiyev executed a move initially awarded 2 points. However, after his opponent challenged the decision, the review overturned the call, keeping the final score at 2:2. According to the “last point” rule, Haqverdiyev had to settle for the silver medal.

As a result, Azerbaijan’s freestyle wrestlers finished the tournament with two silver and one bronze medal. Earlier, Sadiq Mustafazade (92 kg) won silver, while Ceyhun Allahverdiyev (61 kg) claimed bronze.
