The U23 World Championships continue in Novi Sad, Serbia
On the second day of competition, wrestlers in four more weight categories began their battles.
In the 55 kg division, Elmir Aliyev advanced from the opening round without a contest, as Albanian wrestler Andi Muka did not appear on the mat. The Azerbaijani representative defeated Baoji Wu (China) 9–0 in the Round of 16 and overcame Khojiakbar Kuchkarov (Uzbekistan) 4–2 in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Aliyev pinned Armin Shamsipurhaji (Iran) to secure his spot in the final. He will face Alibek Amirov (Russia) for the gold medal tomorrow.
In the 67 kg weight class, Feraim Mustafayev eliminated Nishant Nishant (India) 8–3 and Bayaman Karimov (Kyrgyzstan) 4–1 but lost narrowly to Gleb Makaranka (Belarus) 3–4 in the quarterfinals.
In the 72 kg category, Ruslan Nurullayev claimed decisive victories over Hajime Kikutaya (Japan) 8–0 and Vasile Zabika (Moldova) 4–0 to reach the quarterfinals. However, he fell to Iman Mohammadi (Iran) 3–5 in the battle for a semifinal berth. As the Iranian reached the final, Nurullayev will compete in the repechage round tomorrow. He will face the winner of the bout between Oleg Khalilov (Ukraine) and Mate Veg (Hungary).
In the 97 kg qualification round, Ali Guliyev was defeated by Maksim Averin (UWW/Russia) 1–5.
