Opening ceremony of the U20 Azerbaijan Championship held

The opening ceremony of the U20 Azerbaijan Championship in Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling was held under the title sponsorship of MyGroup and AzerGold.

The event began with the playing of the national anthem. In the official part of the ceremony, Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov, Deputy Head of the Ganja City Executive Authority Adil Tagiyev, United World Wrestling (UWW) Bureau Member and Vice President of the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation Namiq Aliyev, as well as the federation’s Secretary General Parvin Piriyev delivered speeches. During the speeches, special emphasis was placed on the steps taken toward the development of wrestling in Ganja, the fact that the city of Nizami has recently been regularly hosting various local and international competitions, and the high level of organization of these events. It was also noted that holding Azerbaijan championships in accordance with the UWW competition format is of great importance for helping our wrestlers adapt to international tournaments and fully demonstrate their potential.

After the official part of the opening ceremony, a performance by the “Talent Show” dance group was presented. This engaging show program began with quotations from Nizami Ganjavi, continued with a national dance, and concluded with scenes reflecting the warrior and heroic spirit of our people.

The opening ceremony concluded with a video message addressed to the fans by Olympic champion Toghrul Asgarov, a graduate of the Ganja wrestling school.

It should be noted that the U20 Azerbaijan Championship will continue until February 7.
