Opening ceremony of Azerbaijan championship held

Today, the opening ceremony of the Azerbaijan Championship in Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling was held.

The event began with the playing of the national anthem. During the official part of the ceremony, speeches were delivered by Vice President of the National Olympic Committee Chingiz Huseynzade, Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov, United World Wrestling (UWW) Bureau Member and Vice President of the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation (AGF) Namiq Aliyev, as well as the federation’s Secretary General Parvin Piriyev. The speakers emphasized that the national championship is an important stage for every wrestler, highlighted the work carried out towards the development of wrestling, and wished success to the participants at the end.

Following the official part of the opening, an artistic program featuring an entertaining show and dances was presented, concluding the opening ceremony.

After the event, former prominent wrestlers who have ended their careers — Haji Aliyev, Rafiq Huseynov, Mariya Stadnik, Rasul Chuneyev and Taleh Mammadov — were awarded by Olympic champions and AGF vice presidents Namiq Abdullayev and Farid Mansurov.

In the evening session of the competition, the final bouts, which are considered the most exciting moments of the championship, were held.
