Two medals at the World Series

The fourth stage of the Beach Wrestling World Series was held in Katerini, Greece.

Azerbaijan was represented at the tournament by Vusal Aliyev (80 kg) and Ibrahim Yusubov (90 kg).

Competing in Group A, Vusal advanced to the quarterfinals as the runner-up. He then defeated Gabriel Oyog of Moldova and Abdullah Sheikhazami of Iran to reach the final. In the decisive bout, Aliyev fell to another Iranian representative, Ali Gholami, and claimed the silver medal.

Ibrahim also competed in Group A of his weight class and qualified for the quarterfinals with a perfect record. After eliminating Japan’s Shuichiro Sato, Yusubov was stopped in the semifinals by Ukraine’s Oleksiy Yakovchuk. In the bronze medal match, the experienced wrestler defeated Georgia’s Dato Piruzashvili to finish third.

It should be noted that the final stage of the World Series will take place on October 18–19 in Alexandria, Egypt, where world champions in each weight category will be crowned, bringing the beach wrestling season to a close.
