New freestyle wrestling hall opens in Mingachevir

The Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation (AWF) continues its efforts to develop wrestling in the regions and strengthen sports infrastructure across the country.

As part of these efforts, a freestyle wrestling section was established at Secondary School No. 18 in Mingachevir on November 1, 2025, on the initiative of the Central Army Sports Club (MOIK). Under the guidance of coach and instructor Anar Bayramov, the number of children and young people training at the facility has reached 100 in a relatively short period of time. The hall, which was presented with a wrestling mat by the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation and equipped with other necessary sports equipment, was officially opened on July 4.

The opening ceremony was attended by Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov, Head of the Mingachevir City Executive Authority Ilham Ismayilov, Head of the Sports Department of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Elnur Mammadov, Head of the Central Army Sports Club Vugar Asgarov, AWF Vice Presidents Namig Abdullayev and Farid Mansurov, AWF Secretary General Parvin Piriev, member of the AWF Ethics and Disciplinary Committee Firdovsi Umudov, and representatives of the sports community of the Central Aran region.

The guests toured the facilities at the wrestling hall and spoke with the athletes, sharing their recommendations and advice. It was noted that Mingachevir is a city with significant sporting potential. Discussions were also held on ways to further improve sports infrastructure in the city.

It should be noted that the new hall will provide an important foundation for the development of freestyle wrestling in Mingachevir, the nurturing of talented athletes and the achievement of further success in Azerbaijani wrestling.
