National teams returning from the Islamic Games arrive home

The national teams that achieved outstanding results at the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, have returned home.

A welcoming ceremony for the team was held at Heydar Aliyev International Airport.

Jala Aliyeva, Islamic Games Champion:

“I am very happy to have become the champion of the Islamic Solidarity Games for the second time. I express my gratitude to our people who supported me, the federation leadership, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, as well as the National Olympic Committee. Our goals are big, and from now on I will do my best to achieve even greater success. This victory is especially meaningful for me. In this competition, my main opponent was the Turkish wrestler with whom I faced in the semifinal at the European Championship, where the referee stopped the bout because of a rib injury I sustained. This time, it was like a rematch of that encounter. When I went to the European Championship, my goal was to become the champion, but it was not meant to be. God willing, next year I will achieve the results I aim for at both the European and World Championships.”

Arseniy Djioyev, Islamic Games Champion:

“Thank you very much, Azerbaijan! I love you! I am extremely happy to have won a gold medal for Azerbaijan. I express my deep gratitude to the federation leadership, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and everyone who supported me. I am thankful to my coaches, who have had a great impact on my success. Thanks to their support, I was able to achieve victory at this prestigious competition. The training camps held throughout the year help us arrive at competitions better prepared, and the results speak for themselves.”

It should be noted that our wrestlers won 11 medals (2 gold, 5 silver, and 4 bronze) at the Islamic Games.
