January 19, 2026
The national wrestling teams have started their first training camps of 2026.
Following the Azerbaijan Championship held on January 7–11, the line-ups of the national teams were determined and the preparation phase began. Thus, the Greco-Roman wrestling national team started its training camp at the Goygol Olympic Sports Complex on January 14, while the freestyle wrestling national team began on January 18. The Greco-Roman wrestlers will continue their preparation in Goygol until January 25, and the freestyle wrestlers until January 31, focusing mainly on improving physical conditioning. Tactical and technical sessions will also be included during the camp.
The women’s wrestling national team gathered in Baku today. The training camp, organized at the Wrestling Federation’s women’s wrestling training base, will conclude on February 3.
It should be noted that participation in international competitions is planned starting next month. The women wrestlers will begin the 2026 season with the first ranking tournament, the Zagreb Open (February 4–8). Our men’s teams, in turn, will make their debut at the next ranking tournament, the Muhamet Malo Memorial, to be held in Tirana (February 25 – March 1).
