Kenan Heybatov crowned world champion, Khetag Karsanov wins silver
The U23 World Championships in Novi Sad, Serbia, are nearing their conclusion.
Today, two members of Azerbaijan’s freestyle wrestling team competed in the decisive finals.
Kenan Heybatov (70 kg) faced Iran’s Sina Khalili in the gold medal bout. Although his opponent led in the first period, the Azerbaijani wrestler showed determination and turned the match around, earning a 9–4 victory. With this result, Kenan became the U23 world champion for the first time in his career.
Khetag Karsanov (125 kg) also wrestled against an Iranian opponent in the final. Competing in the heaviest weight class for the first time this year, Karsanov was defeated 0–11 by Abolfazl Nejad and secured the silver medal.
