Javidan Nahmatov reaches the world championship final

The U20 World Wrestling Championships have begun in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia.

On the opening day of the competition, finalists were determined in the Greco-Roman wrestling 63, 77, 87 and 130 kg weight categories.

Tural Ahmadov (63 kg) advanced past Greece’s Marios Kapantais with a 6-1 victory, but was narrowly defeated 3-2 by Uzbekistan’s Kuvonchbek Ismayilov in the quarterfinals. As his opponent advanced to the final, Tural will compete in the repechage tomorrow.

Javidan Nahmatov (77 kg) made a confident start to the World Championships. Our representative defeated Greece’s Adamantios Papadatos (8-0) and Kyrgyzstan’s Elkhan Choenbekov (9-0) with complete dominance to reach the quarterfinals. Nahmatov then overcame Kazakhstan’s Yerkebulan Anapiya 7-5 to book his place in the semifinals. In the semifinals, Javidan defeated Iran’s Amir Mehdi Nava 7-1 without giving his opponent a chance. The national team member will face Armenia’s Samvel Terteryan in the final tomorrow.

Orkhan Hajiyev (87 kg) lost to India’s Akhil Akhil by fall in the qualification round, while Mikayil Ismayilov (130 kg) was defeated by Finland’s Tomas Rusi in his opening bout on criteria, 1-1.
