Jala Aliyeva (57 kg), who won a gold medal at the U-23 World Wrestling Championship held in Tirana, the capital of Albania, has returned home.
A briefing was held at Heydar Aliyev International Airport in honor of Aliyeva, who became the first female wrestler in the history of Azerbaijani women’s wrestling to win the world championship in this age group. Responding to questions from journalists, Jala said:
“I am very happy to become a world champion. Of course, this is not my first achievement, but it is the first time I’ve become a world champion. I will strive to achieve even greater success in the future.
My toughest match was against the Japanese wrestler. I started the match very well but got very tired because of her quickness. However, in the end, I managed to secure the victory.
My plans going forward are to prepare even better for upcoming competitions, including the European and World Championships and the Olympic Games.”
It should be noted that during the World Championship, Jala defeated Ukrainian Alina Filipovych (7:4), Turkish Sevim Akbaş (10:0), American Sofia Macaluso (10:0), and Japanese Ruka Natami (10:8).
