Ilkin Gurbanov finishes fifth at the World Championships

The U23 World Championships conclude in Novi Sad, Serbia

Today marked the conclusion of the Greco-Roman wrestling competition at the U23 World Championships.

Ilkin Gurbanov (60 kg), Azerbaijan’s final representative in this discipline, came close to winning a medal. In the repechage round, he defeated Mert Ilbars (Turkey) on criteria (1–1) to advance to the bronze-medal bout against Mehrac Bahramov (Uzbekistan). Qurbanov narrowly lost 4–5, finishing the tournament in fifth place.
