Historic achievement for Azerbaijan at the U23 World Championships
Azerbaijani wrestlers achieved a historic result at the U23 World Championships held in Novi Sad, Serbia, claiming a total of seven medals.
From October 20 to 27, Azerbaijan’s representatives secured three gold, one silver, and three bronze medals, marking the nation’s best-ever performance in terms of medal quality since the U23 World Championships began in 2017.
With this achievement, Azerbaijan ranked fourth overall, finishing behind Japan (6 gold, 1 silver, 3 bronze), Iran (5 gold, 2 silver, 5 bronze), and the United States (5 gold, 2 silver, 4 bronze).
Notably, in Novi Sad, Elmir Aliyev (55 kg), Ziya Babashov (63 kg), and Kenan Heybatov (70 kg) were crowned world champions. Khetag Karsanov (125 kg) earned a silver medal, while Ruslan Nurullayev (72 kg), Gunay Gurbanova (59 kg), and Ali Tsokayev (86 kg) each captured bronze.
