Hasrat makes history, Gurban defends his title

The European Wrestling Championships in Tirana, the capital of Albania, continue.

On the third day of the competition, the Greco-Roman wrestling events concluded.

Our national team finished the day with 2 gold and 1 bronze medal.

Nihat Mammadli (60 kg) defeated Russia’s Suner Konunova with a score of 6–0 to claim the bronze medal. This marks his fourth medal at European Championships (2 gold, 2 bronze).

Hasrat Jafarov (67 kg) faced Turkey’s Murat Firat in the final. In a tense and hard-fought match, Hasrat secured a 7–5 victory, achieving a historic success. By becoming a four-time European champion, Jafarov set a new record in Azerbaijani Greco-Roman wrestling.

Gurban Gurbanov (82 kg) competed against Russia’s Adlet Tyulbayev in the decisive match. Our wrestler won 4–2 and successfully defended his title.

Thus, our national team completed the European Championships with a total of 5 medals. It should be noted that Rashad Mammadov (55 kg) and Islam Abbasov (87 kg) won bronze medals the previous day.
