Gunay Gurbanova reaches the European championship final again

The U20 European Wrestling Championships are continuing in Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia.

On the third day of the competition, three members of Azerbaijan’s women’s wrestling team entered the competition.

Nazrin Ahmadli (50 kg) lost by fall to Russia’s Margarita Yarygina in the round of 16. Nazrin will face Moldova’s Mihaela Bakos in the repechage tomorrow.

Garatel Guliyeva (55 kg) was defeated by Russia’s Olesya Malakhova by fall. Garatel will face Italy’s Angela Casarola in the repechage.

Gunay Gurbanova (59 kg) made a confident start to the competition. Our reigning European champion defeated Turkey’s Elif Elmali and Finland’s Olivia Pekkarinen, both by a score of 10-0, to reach the semifinals. In the semifinal, our compatriot defeated Moldova’s Madalina Prisacari 5-0. Gunay will seek to defend her title by defeating Sweden’s Karin Samuelsson in tomorrow’s final.
