Gunay Gurbanova in the final of the U23 European Championship

The U23 European Championship continues in Tirana, the capital of Albania.

The women’s wrestling competition started today.

Asmar Cankurtaran (50 kg) advanced to the semifinals by defeating Swiss Svenja Jungo 3:0. However, she lost to Belarusian Anastasia Yanotava by pinfall just one step away from the final. Asmar will wrestle Turkish Songul Kavak for the bronze medal tomorrow.

Nargiz Samadova (55 kg) lost to German Amori Andrikha by pinfall in the 1/4 final.

Gunay Gurbanova (59 kg) had a successful debut at the U23 European Championship. Our 17-year-old wrestler first won a confident victory over Belarusian Marta Hetmanava (7:2). Gunay defeated Ukrainian Yulia Pakhniuka with complete superiority (11:1) in the semifinals. Gurbanova will face Italian Aurora Russo, the European and world champion, in the final (U20) tomorrow.
