Gunay became European champion, Asmar won bronze medal

The European Wrestling Championship continues in Tirana, the capital of Albania.

Today, the first medalists in women’s wrestling were determined.

Asmar Cankurtaran (50 kg) held a high-level match with Songul Kavak from Turkey. Our compatriot won the bronze medal by defeating her opponent with a score of 9:3.

Gunay Gurbanova (59 kg) faced Aurora Russo from Italy in the final. Gurbanova, who started the match with the rival wrestler, who holds the title of U20 European and world champion, was more confident and secured the victory with 4 points she earned in the first half. The score of 4:0 did not change in the second half and 17-year-old Gunay became the winner of the U23 European Championship, in which she made her debut.
