Elvin becomes European champion, Gulay takes silver

The U15 European Championships held in Samokov, Bulgaria are nearing completion.

On the fourth day of competition, two more of our wrestlers stepped onto the podium.

Elvin Najafzada (85 kg) faced Russia’s Ibragim Magomedov in the final. The bout was held in a tense and competitive atmosphere. Although our compatriot was trailing 1:4, he showed great determination and completed a comeback. Our freestyle wrestler secured a dramatic 5:4 victory with the points he earned in the final seconds to become European champion.

Meanwhile, Gulay Khasmammadova (36 kg) lost by fall to Russia’s Elizaveta Kirillova in the decisive bout and claimed the silver medal.

As a result, the total number of medals won by our wrestlers at the current tournament has reached six — including 4 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze medal.
