Eldaniz Azizli retains bronze medal chance at World Championships

The World Championships continue in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia.
Today, competition in four Greco-Roman weight categories got underway.
Eldaniz Azizli (55 kg) began strongly, defeating India’s Anil Mor by technical superiority (8–0) to reach the quarterfinals. The decorated wrestler then outclassed American Jaden Ramey with a 5–1 victory. However, the national team captain was stopped in the semifinals, losing 1–3 to Iran’s Payam Baloutaki. Azizli will wrestle for bronze tomorrow.
In the 77 kg category, Sanan Suleymanov advanced to the Round of 16 after a 5–0 win against Sweden’s Per Olofsson. He continued his fine form by defeating China’s Chunyang Pan via technical superiority (8–0). Suleymanov’s run ended in the quarterfinals, where he was beaten 1–3 by Iran’s Alireza Abdevali.
Gurban Gurbanov overcame Qatar’s Shahin Badagimofrad on criteria (1–1), but fell short in the quarterfinals against Japan’s Taizo Yoshida in a narrow 8–9 defeat.
Beka Kandelaki, meanwhile, exited early after a classification round loss to Armenia’s Razmik Kurdyan, decided on criteria (1–1).
