Azerbaijan open the world championships with three medals

The U17 World Wrestling Championships continue in Baku.

On the second day of the competition, held at the National Gymnastics Arena, the winners in the Greco-Roman wrestling events at 48, 55, 65, 80 and 110 kg were determined.

Omar Salmanov (48 kg) dominated Georgia’s Giorgi Chkhikvadze 7-1 in the bronze-medal bout. With this victory, Salmanov became our first medalist at this year’s championships.

Orkhan Habibli (65 kg) defeated India’s Kunal Dagar 7-5 in a closely contested bout. With this victory, our wrestler claimed third place on the podium.

Isfahan Hasanov (80 kg), meanwhile, lost by a narrow 1-2 margin to Iran’s Alireza Rezaei in the final and took home the silver medal.

Thus, our national team secured one silver and two bronze medals on the second competition day.
