Azerbaijan finishes third in the World Championships

Greco-Roman competition concludes at the U23 World Championships in Novi Sad, Serbia

The Greco-Roman wrestling events at the U23 World Championships in Novi Sad, Serbia have concluded.

The Azerbaijani team won two gold medals and one bronze, scoring 93 points to finish third in the team standings. This marks the best result in the country’s history in terms of medal count at the U23 World Championships.

Azerbaijan ranked behind only Iran (143 points) and Ukraine (96 points) in the overall team classification.

Under the guidance of head coach Aleksandr Tarakanov, senior coach Rovshan Bayramov, and coaches Hasan Aliyev and Kamran Mammadov, Elmir Aliyev (55 kg) and Ziya Babashov (63 kg) became world champions, while Ruslan Nurullayev (72 kg) secured the bronze medal.
