Ali Nazarov Crowned World Champion in Athens
The U17 World Wrestling Championships continue in Athens, the capital of Greece.
On Day 3, Greco-Roman competition came to an end, with Team Azerbaijan claiming a full set of medals at the tournament.
In the 45 kg weight class, Abdurrahman Huseynli secured a bronze medal after a dominant 9-0 win over Ukraine’s Timur Maharramov.
At 51 kg, Hikmat Hagverdiyev took home silver, falling 1-4 in the final to Uzbekistan’s Otabek Tursunov.
In the 60 kg gold medal match, Ali Nazarov delivered a commanding performance against Kyrgyzstan’s Amangeldi Ysakbayev, earning a 6-1 victory to become world champion.
Competing at 71 kg, Yusif Ahmadli came up just short in the bronze medal bout, losing 3-4 to Iran’s Mohammad Kazemi.
In the 92 kg division, Said Pashayev advanced through the repechage session with dominant wins over Moldova’s Vladislav Vasilevski (9-0) and Kazakhstan’s Adilet Toyshi (win by fall). However, in the bronze medal match, he was defeated 0-5 by Turkey’s Ahmet Uzun, finishing in fifth place.
With 1 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze, Azerbaijan earned a total of 100 team points, sharing 4th–5th place overall with Kyrgyzstan in the team
standings.
