Ali Javadli reaches the European Championship final

The U17 European Wrestling Championships continue in Samokov, Bulgaria.

On the second day of competition, the finalists in Greco-Roman wrestling were determined in the 45 kg, 51 kg, 60 kg, 71 kg, and 92 kg weight categories.

Ali Javadli (45 kg) claimed a dominant 8-0 victory over Bulgaria’s Tzvetan Nikolov before defeating Armenia’s Vazgen Vardanyan 7-1. In the semifinal, our representative edged past Georgia’s Luka Bolkvadze with a narrow 7-6 win. Ali will face Russia’s Umar Bogatyryov in tomorrow’s final.

Huseyn Mustafazade (51 kg) defeated Belarusian wrestler Timafey Semyanenka 9-8 in the qualification round but lost to Russia’s Inal Temersultanov by a narrow 6-7 score in the quarterfinals. Since his opponent advanced to the final, our wrestler earned a repechage opportunity and will face Switzerland’s Tristan Bernet tomorrow.

Elmir Cherkezov (60 kg) lost 1-6 to Germany’s Christiano Liebzeit in the round of 16. As his opponent progressed to the final, Elmir will also compete in the repechage round, where he will face Austria’s Lionel Winter.

Ali Mammadov (71 kg) suffered a 3-8 defeat to Ukraine’s Vladyslav Velichko in the qualification round.

Zohrab Safarov (92 kg) eliminated Russia’s Vladimir Avakyan (10-0), Germany’s Max Peter Paul Baumeister (6-3), and Georgia’s Vakhtang Meparishvili (5-2). However, he was defeated 0-6 by Armenia’s Aleksan Shaljyan in the semifinal and will now compete for the bronze medal.
