Ali Javadli becomes European Champion

The U17 European Wrestling Championships continue in Samokov, Bulgaria.
The Greco-Roman wrestling competition concluded on the third day of the tournament.
Ali Javadli (45 kg) gave no chance to Russia’s Umar Bogatyryov in the final. Our compatriot decided the outcome of the bout in the first period. Defeating his opponent by technical superiority (9:1), Ali became the European champion.
Huseyn Mustafazada (51 kg) defeated Switzerland’s Tristan Bernet (9:0) in the repechage bout and Georgia’s Davit Shavadze (9:1) in the bronze medal match ahead of time to claim third place on the podium.
Elmir Cherkazov (60 kg) beat Austria’s Lionel Winter (9:0) in his first repechage bout, but lost to Moldova’s Vlad Duminca in the second repechage match – 0:8.
Zohrab Safarov, meanwhile, secured the bronze medal by defeating Moldova’s Vladislav Vasylevski by technical superiority (9:0).
As a result, our national team finished the continental championship with 1 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze medals. Collecting 118 points overall, our team placed third in the European team standings.
