A meeting has been held with our national teams that achieved success at the European Championship.

A meeting was held with the members of our national teams who achieved high results at the European Wrestling Championship, along with coaches and representatives from the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation.

The Secretary General of the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation, Nəsimi Musayev, members of the Executive Committee Namiq Abdullayev and Fərid Mansurov, head coach of Greco-Roman wrestling Aleksandr Tarakanov, head coach of freestyle wrestling Khetag Gazyumov, acting head coach of women’s wrestling Toğrul Əsgərov, the coordinator for women’s wrestling Mariya Stadnik, and several members of the national teams shared their impressions of the achievements and discussed plans for preparations for upcoming competitions.

It was noted that the development of wrestling is being supported comprehensively at the state leadership level. Starting this year, national championships in various age categories are being held in regions, and intensive reconstruction of wrestling halls and provision of equipment is being carried out in both Baku and the regions. This has contributed to the growing public interest in wrestling.

During the meeting, Mikayıl Cabbarov, the president of the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation and the Minister of Economy, conveyed congratulations from President Ilham Aliyev to the wrestlers on their magnificent victories and wished continued success. He emphasized that the attention and care of the head of state has created favorable conditions for the development of sports in the country. This provides great motivation for our athletes, including wrestlers, to achieve high results. The European Championship victories of both our freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling teams further confirm Azerbaijan’s high position in global wrestling. It was also highlighted that the popularity of wrestling in the country is growing year by year, and the number of people practicing this sport is increasing, providing more opportunities for talented young wrestlers to represent our national teams. The successes at the European and World Championships in various age groups demonstrate that our national teams have a strong and diverse base.

To recall, at the European Wrestling Championship held in Slovakia, our athletes won 4 gold, 2 silver, and 7 bronze medals, securing first place in the team standings for both Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling.
