5 medals on the last day of the ranking tournament

The wrestling rating tournament held in Zagreb, Croatia has concluded.

On the last day of the competition, 11 members of the Greco-Roman wrestling national team took to the mat.

Elmir Aliyev (55 kg) defeated Mehdi Ahadi from Iran (6:3), Jasurbek Ortikboyev from Uzbekistan (10:5) and Alexander Cuevas from Singapore (8:0) in Group A. Aliyev, who advanced to the semifinals as the group loser, also defeated American Brady Kuntz – 5:0. Elmir faced Ahadi again in the final and climbed to the highest step of the podium with a confident victory (7:0).

Three wrestlers represented our country in the 60 kg category. Eldeniz Azizli, who competed in the upper weight category, failed to win against Mehraj Bahramov from Uzbekistan at the start – 0:9. Nihat Mammadli defeated Israeli Melkamu Fetene with a complete advantage (11:1), but in the 1/4 finals he lost to Bahramov with a score of 6:11. Huseyn Garibov lost to Serbian Georgi Tibilov in his debut – 0:6. He defeated Israeli Abere Fetene in the consolation match – 4:1. However, in the fight for the bronze medal, he lost to Iranian Puya Naserpur – 1:9.

Ulvu Ganizade (72 kg) defeated Czech Denis Mertli in the first round (4:3), but withdrew from the competition due to injury. Ruslan Nurullayev, who competed in the same weight category, lost to Hungarian Levente Leva in his debut with a score of 1:4. He did not give a chance to Finnish Matias Lipasti in the consolation match – 11:0. Iranian Olympic and world champion Mohammadreza Gerayi did not appear in the decisive match, so Ruslan took third place.

Gurban Gurbanov (82 kg) won a convincing victory over Serbian Uroš Lečić (8:0) and Belarusian Ilya Bitseyev (6:0). He lost to Iranian Golamreza Farokhinsanjani in the semifinals – 3:11. Gurban defeated Romanian Vasile Koyoku early (9:0) and won the bronze medal.

Arif Niftullayev (97 kg) defeated Dutch Tirone Sterkenburg 3:2, but lost to Iranian Shayan Habibzare in the 1/8 finals – 0:8. Our other representative in this weight class, Murad Ahmadiyev, eliminated Russian Magomed Murtazaliev with a minimal margin (2:1) and then lost to Belarusian Abubakr Khaslakhanov – 2:12. He disappointed Iranian Hamidreza Badka in the consolation match – 5:4. Murad wrestled with Habibzare for third place and won the bronze medal with a score of 6:3.

Beka Kandelaki (130 kg) defeated Hungarian wrestlers – Dariusz Vitek (9:0) and Laszlo Darabos (8:2). She lost to Finnish Konsta Maeenpae in the semifinals – 3:4. Beka lost to Russian Marat Kamparova in the bronze medal match – 2:3. Another national member in the heaviest weight category, Sarkhan Mammadov, defeated Czech Artur Sarkisyan and American Kourtney Freeman with a score of 3:1. He lost to Iranian Aliakbar Yusifahmedkhali in the semifinals – 1:9. Sarkhan defeated Hungarian Koppani Laszlo by pinfall and rose to the 3rd step of the podium.

Thus, on the last day of the competition, our wrestlers won 1 gold and 4 bronze medals.
