The rating tournament held in the Croatian capital Zagreb is coming to an end. Today, 7 more of our wrestlers competed at the “Zagreb Open”. Since only 2 participants took part in the women’s wrestling in the 57 kg category, Jala Aliyeva wrestled directly in the final. Our compatriot’s match with American Jacarra Winchester was dramatic. After the first half, trailing 0:7, Aliyeva showed determination and reduced the gap to 3 points. Although Jala performed a 4-point trick at the last moment, the judges did not register the trick, citing the fact that time had run out. Thus, Aliyeva, who lost to her opponent with a score of 4:7, was content with a silver medal. Zahra Karimzade (72 kg), who made her debut among adults, lost to Frenchwoman Pauline Lecarpin (0:3), Croatian Veronica Wilk (2:6), American Skilar Grota (0:10) and Hungarian Noemi Nagy (1:10) in the round robin competition. Three of our representatives took to the mat in Greco-Roman wrestling in the 77 kg category. National champion Davud Mammadov lost to Moldovan Alexandru Solovei in his debut with a score of 0:3. More experienced Khasay Hasanlli lost to Russian Sergey Stepanov in the 1/8 finals with a minimal margin – 6:7. Sanan Suleymanov, who is considered the leader of the national team in this weight category, defeated Serbian Aleksa Ilic on the last points principle (1:1) and Hungarian Robert Frisch with a score of 7:1. However, he failed to defeat Stepanov in the 1/4 finals – 0:4. Since Sergey reached the final, our wrestlers qualified for the consolation match. Khasay won the first consolation match with a complete advantage (14:5) over Finnish Johnny Sarkkinen. However, the more experienced Suleymanov defeated Hasanli prematurely – 8:0. Sanan wrestled for the bronze medal with Russian Sergey Kutuzov and lost with a score of 1:3. Islam Abbasov (87 kg) eliminated Uzbek Zhalgasbay Berdimuratov with a score of 4:3, and Hungarian Istvan Takacs on the last point principle (3:3). Having lost to Danish Turpal Ali Bisultanov in the 1/4 finals with a score of 0:4, Abbasov gained the right to wrestle for the bronze medal directly, for which he did not participate in the consolation match, against Kazakhstani Islam Yevloyev. Islam fought with Russian Milad Alirzayev in the evening session. Abbasov, who fell behind 0:5 at the beginning of the match, showed determination and came back and won the bronze medal based on the last point principle (5:5). Our other representative in this weight class, Rafig Huseynov, lost to Serbian Aleksandr Komarov in the first round with a score of 3:5.
