Gunay and Ruzanna win world silver medals

The U20 World Wrestling Championships are continuing in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia.

On the sixth competition day, medalists were determined in the 57kg, 59kg and 68kg women’s wrestling categories, as well as in the 61kg and 86kg freestyle wrestling categories.

Gunay Gurbanova (57kg) faced Japan’s Konami Ono in the final. Our representative finished the first period in the lead, but was unable to stop her opponent’s attacks after the break, eventually losing 16-6. As a result, Gunay claimed the world silver medal.

Ruzanna Mammadova (59kg) also faced a representative of Japan in the decisive bout. Her match against Sae Noguchi was a closely contested affair. Ruzanna ultimately lost 3-1 to her opponent and claimed the silver medal.

Jamal Abbasov (61kg), meanwhile, was defeated 11-5 by Iran’s Anvar Farhad Khateri in the repechage.
