Aykhan Javadov becomes world champion again

The U20 World Wrestling Championships are continuing in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia.

On the fourth competition day, winners were determined in the 60kg and 82kg Greco-Roman wrestling categories, as well as in the 50kg, 53kg and 72kg women’s wrestling categories.

Aykhan Javadov (60kg) faced Uzbekistan’s Dostonbek Oripov in the final. A four-point move executed by our representative in the first period proved decisive. Defeating his opponent 4-1, Aykhan successfully defended his title and became U20 world champion for the second consecutive time.

Elmin Aliyev (82kg) faced Türkiye’s Ismail Barekat in the bronze-medal bout. Taking control from the very beginning, our wrestler maintained his advantage until the end and secured a 7-1 victory to claim the world bronze medal.

Zahra Karimzade (72kg), meanwhile, was defeated by Russia’s Liliana Kazmina by fall in the bronze-medal bout and finished the World Championships in fifth place.

With these results, Azerbaijan’s medal tally at the World Championships has reached five. In the previous days, Javidan Nehmatov (77kg) won silver, while Emin Javadli (55kg) and Tural Ahmadov (63kg) claimed bronze medals.
