10th anniversary of “More Than Medals” project celebrated in Azerbaijan

An international training camp was organized in Azerbaijan to mark the 10th anniversary of the “More Than Medals” project.

Held from August 3 to 8, the event brought together nearly 100 young wrestlers and delegates from 20 countries. The main objective of the project was not only to support the athletes’ sporting development, but also their social and personal growth, while providing them with opportunities to meet peers from different countries, build friendships and spend time together.

The camp was jointly organized by the International Olympic Committee, United World Wrestling and the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation. The main part of the program took place at the National Gymnastics Arena and the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation’s training facility, where young wrestlers participated in joint training sessions and worked to improve their skills through various activities.

As part of the program, specialists from the Azerbaijan National Anti-Doping Agency (AMADA) also conducted an educational anti-doping seminar for the participants. The young athletes received detailed information about the principles of clean sport, anti-doping regulations and their responsibilities as athletes.

The camp participants also took part in a beach wrestling training session by the seaside. The guests visited Baku’s landmarks and participated in various social activities.

The “More Than Medals” project contributes to the development of young wrestlers’ skills beyond sport, while strengthening friendship and mutual understanding among athletes from different cultural backgrounds.
