Azerbaijan set new records

The U20 European Wrestling Championships, held in Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia, have come to an end.

Azerbaijan’s freestyle wrestling team achieved a historic result at the continental championships.

Our team won 2 gold, 2 silver and 4 bronze medals, collecting 170 points to finish second in the team standings behind Russia (194). Armenia (118) placed third.

With this result, our team set two new records. The junior team achieved its best-ever performance in terms of both the number of medals won and the number of points collected.

It should be noted that, under the guidance of head coach Ashraf Aliyev and coaches Rovshan Hajiyev, Nazim Alijanov and Asgarxan Novruzov, Haji Karimov (70 kg) and Yusif Dursunov (125 kg) won gold medals; Jamal Abbasov (61 kg) and Nurlan Agazade (74 kg) claimed silver; while Muhammad Ismayilov (57 kg), Bashir Verdiyev (65 kg), Muhammad Abbaszade (86 kg) and Farhad Suleymanli (97 kg) secured bronze medals.
