Three Azerbaijani wrestlers to compete for bronze medals at the European championship

The U17 European Wrestling Championships continue in Samokov, Bulgaria.

Today, the women’s wrestling competition started in the 40 kg, 46 kg, 53 kg, 61 kg, and 69 kg weight categories.

Gulkhanim Shirinova (40 kg) lost to Russia’s Zlata Koreshova in her debut bout – 3:12.

Nuray Jafarli (46 kg) eliminated North Macedonia’s Frosina Atanasova (by fall) and Hungary’s Vivien Szentpali (7:3), but was defeated by Poland’s Yulia Palka in the semifinals with a score of 0:3. Nuray will wrestle for the bronze medal tomorrow.

Fatima Bayramova (53 kg) overcame Türkiye’s Ecrin Salik (by fall) and Ukraine’s Kamilla Pikhor (6:3). However, she lost to Hungary’s Maria Zhitovoz in the semifinals – 0:10. Fatima will compete for bronze tomorrow.

Fidan Babayeva (61 kg) lost to Switzerland’s Inez Airaksinen by fall in the round of 16.

Simura Abdullayeva (69 kg) defeated Bulgaria’s Natalia Taseva by fall, but lost to Türkiye’s Kiymet Tezcan in the quarterfinals with a score of 6:17. Since her opponent advanced to the final, our representative will compete in the repechage tomorrow.
