One set of medals in Vietnam

The beach wrestling season has kicked off in Da Nang, Vietnam.
At the first stage of the World Series held over the weekend, Azerbaijan was represented by four wrestlers under the leadership of head coach Oyan Nazariani. Our national team returns from Vietnam with a full set of medals.
Ashraf Ashirov (90 kg) enjoyed a successful debut in beach wrestling. After achieving maximum results in the group stage, our compatriot defeated Greece’s Michail Akritidis in the semifinals and Georgia’s Iuza Tsertsvadze in the final by a score of 3-1 to become champion.
Sahib Dadashov (80 kg) advanced to the semifinals after finishing second in his group. He outclassed France’s Hugo Quenot in the semifinals with a dominant 3-0 victory. In the final, Dadashov narrowly lost to Georgia’s Luka Chkhitunidze (1-2) and claimed the silver medal.
Rubail Ibrahimli (70 kg) also secured a semifinal spot after finishing second in his group. Although our wrestler lost to Russia’s Konstantin Topshinoyev by a score of 0-1 in the semifinal, he defeated France’s Quentin Sticker (2-1) to earn the bronze medal.
Represented in three out of four weight categories, our national team collected 60 points and finished third in the team standings behind Georgia (71) and Ukraine (65).
