Turan Bayramov: “My goal was to become European champion”

European freestyle wrestling silver medalist Turan Bayramov (74 kg) shared his impressions:

“My goal was to become European champion. This is already the second time I have missed this opportunity. I am very disappointed. I made a tactical mistake in the final match. After the score became 3:0, all my plans fell apart. I will do my best to turn this medal into gold.

My opponent’s wrestling style is completely different from mine. He wrestles by holding and controlling the opponent. I perform better against opponents who engage in open wrestling. This wrestler, however, relies on physical strength and pushes the opponent out of the mat to gain advantage. Since this is the opposite of my style, I had difficulties.

In Greco-Roman wrestling, 77 kg, and in freestyle wrestling, 74 kg are the most competitive weight categories. Every medal is valuable for an athlete.”
